The Student Technology Leadership Program is a co-curricular program that has been in Kentucky and Daviess County since 1994. In that time participation in our schools has waxed and wained. Just two years ago we had 100% of our schools involved in STLP in some way. Some schools did Showcase events. Some submitted Digital Products for Online Judging. Other schools participated in live events such as robotics. COVID changed what opportunities schools could offer and now a year later many schools are starting from scratch.
One way the district STLP efforts are changing is how schools are supported. For the 21-22 school year, DCPS has tagged Andrea Head to coordinate STLP. She is still a full-time teacher but accepted this added responsibility based on her stellar STLP results at Audubon over the years.
Andrea Head has been a teacher at Audubon Elementary since 2002. Ms. Head has been recognized by the Foundation for Daviess County Public Schools for technology leadership and has earned the level two Google Educator Certification. After starting at Audubon, she has assisted with school and district technology professional development workshops and created a technology club for 4th-5th grade students, which became part of the Student Technology Leadership Program a few years later. In the past 12 years, Audubon’s STLP has competed in several regional, district, and state competitions, where they have been recognized for their projects, products, and services at all levels.
Prior to the COVID year, Audubon was our district's only Gold Status STLP school due to Andrea Head's leadership.
In 2021, Ms. Head takes on the role of the District Coordinator for STLP. She works with all schools K-12 to help implement STLP. One of her goals in the leadership role is to expand schools' involvement with the DPOJ categories that are best implemented in the classroom during the school day.
