As we know, Google regularly sends out updates to assist in enhancing functions for users. To make sure your device is up to date with the most recent updates, it is recommended to restart your device at least once a week. Click here for more information regarding device restarts.
One of this year's updates however included a restriction for users under the age of 18. They are no longer able to insert a YouTube video into their Google Slides. Google is currently aware of the issue, however, there is no ETA for a fix to the issue. Read here for an article on this issue.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how your students can link a YouTube video to an image within their Google Slide presentation. If you are a visual learner, check out this video.
Linking a YouTube Video to an Image in a Google Slide Presentation
1. Have your Google presentation and YouTube video open in separate tabs.
2. Take a screenshot of your desired video's thumbnail image. (Use keys Start + Shift + S on a Window's Device. Use Crtl + Shift + Show Windows on a Chromebook.)

3. Once you have your thumbnail saved, in your Google Slide presentation click the Insert menu and select Image from the dropdown menu.
4. Select Upload from Computer or Drive depending on where your image was saved to.
5. Place your image into the presentation and resize it as you need.
6. Return to your YouTube video and under the video, select Share.
7. Copy the link to the YouTube video and return to your presentation.
8. Select your image and use the Crtl + K keys or right-click and select Link from the dropdown menu.
9. Paste the link to the video and press the Enter key.
Once the video is linked, resizing or moving the image will not affect the link. Until a solution becomes available for users 18 and under becomes available, this is the easiest way for students to put YouTube videos into their presentations.
